Loose Deposit Challenge

Ever wondered how far you could get through the game by only using the loose deposit ore rocks in the game?

Overview

Complete Rules located here on reddit.

In Update 2 there were 1,964 loose deposits across the map (these include the caps that sit on top of nodes). The basis of the challenge is you cannot use any miners on nodes, you can only gather resources from mining the loose deposits or what you get from chain-sawing. Visiting the crash sites to get parts is very important in this challenge. The 150 motors and 500 modular frames for the space elevator tier 5/6 can be collected from all the crash sites. The goal of this playthrough was to document what is required to get through the game with minimal manual crafting.

After playing for about 10 hours I thought that iron would be my main hurdle but it's clear that there are not enough oil plants to make the 1000 required computers. When chainsawing the oil plants you used to get barrels of crude oil. This resulted in completely chainsawing the East Swamp, Centre Swamp and Purple Forest to find all the oil plants. There are also some oil plants in the Northern Forest and where the Jellyfish plants are in the South East.

At 127 hours almost every possible loose deposit was collected except for about 250 and assume most of these are uranium with some others that are glitched into the map and others blocked by the cracked boulders.

As of Update 3 this challenge is somewhat impossible. The first reason is you can no longer get crude oil from the oil plants. The second reason is that the loose deposits do not give out as much raw material as they used to, even though there are now 2,200+ deposits on the map.

Fun Fact: This save file was the basis for my Spiraling Circle Tower playthrough.
